Where I grew up in Connecticut, schools were closed on election day and voting booths filled the gyms.
In San Francisco, my last two polling places have been in the garages of private homes, but since I moved I now vote in a school.
Weirdest thing: the school was in session—my voting stand was in the center of an assembly on disabilities, led by a woman with MS.
